Quasi 300 organizzazioni, tra cui anche l’Associazione dei Comuni Virtuosi, chiedono a Obama di tenere la Banca mondiale fuori dal business del clima.
Una lettera firmata da 287 realtà della società civile globale è stata inviata ieri al presidente Obama, per chiedere che gli Stati Uniti facciano tutto il possibile per non dare alla Banca mondiale alcun ruolo nella gestione della finanza per il clima. Tra le varie organizzazioni firmatarie Friends of the Earth International, ActionAid International, Christian Aid UK, Jubilee South, 350.org, l’Institute for Policy Studies, l’italiana Campagna per la Riforma della Banca Mondiale, il Pan African Climate Justice Alliance e il Third World Network. Visti i pessimi precedenti dei banchieri di Washington, in prima fila nel finanziamento dei progetti per l’estrazione dei combustibili fossili, gli esponenti dei vari gruppi che hanno siglato la lettera ritengono più opportuno che il denaro a disposizione sia veicolato tramite un fondo multilaterale da far rientrare nell’ambito dell’UNFCCC. Un fondo basato su una struttura di governance democratica, che renda prioritarie le istanze delle comunità impattate dai cambiamenti climatici e operi con la massima trasparenza.
